11. ELLEN HONE and Joseph Soul

Ellen Hone (March 31, 1822 - November 30, 1910) was the eleventh child of William and Sarah Hone. Ellen married Joseph Simmonds Soul in 1855.

Before her marriage Ellen worked as an infant teacher. Joseph is listed on the 1881 Census as a Banker's Clerk. He appears to be eleven years younger than his wife Ellen. At the time of the Census their two adult children, Walter and Margarita were still at home. Ellen's sisters Fanny Hemsley, Matilda and Rose Hone were living with them at the time of the Census. Their servants were Mary Ann Allen and Theresa Payne. They all resided at Nightingale Road.

Ellen gave the portrait of her father to the National Portrait Gallery in London (now in the Gallery's storage). William's personal papers and other literary items were supposedly given or sold by Ellen to an antiquities dealer, who subsequently bequeathed them to Washington State University.

Ellen died on November 30, 1910 aged 88. She is buried at Abney Park Cemetery (Burial 117605. Section M05. Index 5S12). Joseph Simmonds Soul died on April 4, 1913 aged 79. He is also buried at Abney Park, (Burial 121362. Section M05. Index 6S03).
