Nathaniel Johnson Hone (1844 - 1909) was the fourth son of Alfred Hone and Elizabeth Preece.
Nathaniel married Emily Sandland (18?? - 1914) in the Barossa Valley, South Australia in 1869. They had five children.
1. Frank Sandland (1871-1951) married Lucy Henderson (??-1951) in 1896
2. Gilbert Bertram (1872 - 1895)
3. Harold Ernest (1874 - 1901)
4. Frances Helen (1876 - ?) married Hugh McCallum in 1900
5. Alice May (1878 - ?) married Charles Birks in 1913
Nathaniel Hone was first listed as a draper's assistance in 1863. A newspaper article about an assault on him appeared in the Adelaide Observer in October 1863.
Later, Nathaniel was a church Minister and is mentioned in the Adelaide Observer in January 1865 as being granted permission to act as an Officiating Minister for marriages. He is mentioned in a 1935 newspaper article by Captain J W Castine who was recounting his arrival in Australia. It appears that Nathaniel arrived in Australia with four friends.
Nathaniel died at his residence, Southwark, Adelaide in July 1909. It lists his wife as Emily Hone and he was in his 65th year.
