5. ALFRED HONE and Elizabeth Preece

William and Sarah Hone's second son Alfred Hone was born in 1810.  In June 1835 he married Elizabeth Preece. Interestingly Allan Burn, Alfred's nephew would call his second son George Preece, perhaps in honour of a close affection to his aunt and uncle. Alfred died in 1883, the same year as his nephew Allan Burn and sister Sarah Burn.

In December 1827 Alfred was run over in the Strand. He suffered a fractured skull and everyone feared he would die. Luckily he recovered. Alfred is referred to in a series of letters from William. This, from March 1829 is particularly affectionate.

Alfred was a renowned portrait sculptor and exhibited busts of his work at the Royal Academy. He is listed in the 1871 Census as living in Kentish Town, St Pancras, London. On Census Day his wife Elizabeth was 60 and living with them was their daughter Frances Beadell (aged 29 and a widow) as well as their two grandsons, Edison S Beadell (10) and Harry Beadell (8). There were three boarders living with them, Thomas Taylor, Henry Armstrong, David Dickson.

Alfred and Elizabeth had four children.

1. Alfred Hone Jnr (1836 - 1885) married Annie ? (1842 -?) like his father Alfred Jnr was a renowned sculptor. He died on March 2, 1885 in Calcutta India.

2. William Hone (1841 -?)

3. Fanny Hone (1842 - ?) married Samuel Beadell in 1860. They had three sons, Nathaniel, Edison and Harry.

4. Nathaniel Johnson Hone (1844 -1909) emigrated to South Australia in 1859. Married Emily Sandland in 1869.
